RELEVANT EXPERIENCE

  • River corridor surveys and pond surveys using standard methodologies such as HABSCORE for the river and riparian area.
  • Surveying for freshwater invertebrates as an assessment of water quality using all biotic indices such as BMWP, ASPT, MFBI coupled with the relation to habitat e.g. using RIVPACS.
  • Surveying aquatic micro algae and their use as biomonitors as an assessment of water quality.
  • EIA desk study regarding the construction and operation of an offshore wind farm.
  • Marine Biotope surveying using standard MNCR and CCW methodology.
  • Surveying for adults and juveniles of commercially important fish and shellfish including electrofishing surveys using SFCC methodologies.
  • Marine mammals and basking shark surveys.
  • Interpretation of benthic data.
  • Production of marine chapters for EIAs covering harbour redevelopments, creation of pontoons, breakwaters, marinas and pumping stations with mitigation design using standard guidelines such as those outlined by IEEM.
  • Using tracks and signs to identify riparian mammals.
  • Physical surveys of marine and freshwater habitats using a theodolite, remote sensing, GPS and mapping using GIS.
  • Creation of over 70 management plans aimed at reducing agricultural impacts on watercourses and encouraging biodiversity.
  • Project manager of a European funded project (3 years) to investigate the decline of the European eels in UK waters, involving the design and implementation of a survey strategy, the manipulation of large datasets and the cooperation with international partners to produce a guide for river managers on how to manage their watercourses for the protection of eels.
  • Spatial and morphological survey of bush cricket species based on their distinct stridulations.
  • Marine turtle research.
