Fish *population surveys and community surveys are a frequent service provided by Tamar Consulting. We have conducted surveys all over the country and in all environments from remote hillsides using backpack equipment to wider lowland rivers using generators, boats, booms and nets.
Any work requiring an intrusion into the water course (for example driving a digger into a river for revetment work) should take place in an area free from fish.
Tamar Consulting will provide *fish rescues; isolating an area for a defined time period, under license from the Environment Agency, allowing essential maintenance to take place with consideration to protected species such as the Bullhead (Miller’s Thumb – Cottus gobio) or Lamprey (Sea Lamprey – Petromyzon marinus).
More complex works in water courses may require mitigation services and special fish features installing to keep migration routes open.
Fish *health checks for Section 30 of the Salmon and Freshwater Fisheries Act 1975 can be provided by Tamar Consulting. When applying to introduce fish to a mandatory water, the fish must be health checked. A health check may still be needed for non-mandatory waters (i.e. fully enclosed still waters), where there are highlighted ecological concerns.
